To Have and To Hoard

To Have and To Hoard

To Have and To Hoard is the story of a love triangle between me, my husband—and my husband’s stuff. As our lives intertwined and my roles multiplied—wife, mother, daughter-in-law, landlady, and homeowner—so did the musty, moth-eaten thrift store finds he called collections. Could I hold on to my love for my husband without getting buried?

I began writing the memoir in Dorian Fox’s Memoir in Progress class in fall 2015 at GrubStreet. I was honored to be chosen to read an excerpt of my developing work at the GrubStreet Student Showcase on December 16, 2015.

In Master Memoir with Alysia Abbott, I continued to generate material. On June 20, 2016, I began GrubStreet’s  competitive year-long program, the Memoir Incubator, where I completed a draft of To Have and To Hoard. Read my GrubWrites blog post about my memoir in progress here.

I read an excerpt of To Have and To Hoard on May 11, 2017, at the Middle East Restaurant and Nightclub. Post-Incubator, I’m revising my manuscript as I prepare to submit it to several agents I pitched at The Muse & the Marketplace. Read my GrubWrites blog post about Muse #17 here.
